Current state of the Ukrainian hotel industry and war impact on it was investigated in this article. It was determined that war influenced the sphere of the hotel and tourism industry very negatively. However, it has been researched that despite of the negative war impact, the hotel industry of Ukraine continues to develop.
Ukraine has presented itself as a tourist country. Thanks to its recreational resources, architectural monuments and great cultural heritage, the tourist flow has been increasing rapidly over the past few years attracting tourists from all over the world. Accordingly the number of accommodation facilities in the country has also increased. Thereafter to the data of the Ukraine’ State Statistics Service, the number of tourists who traveled to Ukraine from 2015 to 2019 increased by 1.6 times. However, since the beginning of 2020 the amount of tourists has decreased sharply and the number of accommodation facilities has begun to decrease as a result (pic. 1) [4,5] .

Lviv has always been one of the most attractive cities of western Ukraine. Full of its rich historical and cultural heritage Lviv has usually been full of tourists all over the world. The year 2022 began for Lviv with a successful New Year and Christmas tourist season. However, on the eve of the full-scale invasion of Russia, the number of tourists in Lviv significantly decreased .
Unfortunately after February 24 the purpose of visitors to Lviv has changed. The hospitality sector which includes accommodation, catering and other related services, adjusted to complex conditions that required flexibility and quick response. In particular, Lviv's hospitality sector played an important role in helping people which were leaving their houses to find a safer place.
Since the beginning of the war, accommodation facilities in the western regions have been loaded at 100%, which has caused a significant increase in the tourist’ tax. According to the statistic information of the State Tourism Development Agency the amount of the tourist tax increased to UAH 89.4 million for the first six months of 2022, which is almost 28.8% more compared to the amount in the same period of 2021 (then the budget received UAH 69.4 million .) [5].
Representatives of international diplomatic missions, embassies, various volunteer organizations and journalists who moved to safer regions at the beginning of the war also affected the workload.
Unfortunatelly, during the full-scale war, which has been going on for two years, the part of accommodations have been destroyed. It is known about the destruction and damaging of 12 hotels on the territory of Ukraine with a total number of 982 rooms[3,4].
Inspite of the war a multifunctional complex the Emily Resort Hotel was opened in Vynnyky (Lviv region). In addition, the launch of Best Western Plus Market Square Lviv in Lviv was announced for June. But the war made its adjustments. Starting from February 25, the hotel, which was not opened at that time becamr a shelter for people evacuated from various cities of Ukraine. From May 1, the facility was closed for some time to complete the work and open it fully from September 2022. Nowadays Best Western Plus Market Square Lviv is one of the best hotels in the central part of Lviv with a wide range of services [1].
As we can see, the hotel business of Ukraine is starting to improve and has great prospects after the end of the war. Active development in the post-war period can be achieved by creating new tourist routes through post-war symbolic places and finding new ways of attracting tourists. We should also pay attention to the experience of tourist countries that have restored their tourist flow after the war. Such countries as Croatia and Cyprus not only restored active tourism but even significantly improved it.
